Warning: contains spoilers for Suicide Squad #14!
An army of terrifying Superboy clones have just been unleashed in DC’s multiverse. In recent issues of Suicide Squad, Amanda Waller has been experimenting with clones of Superboy, and when some of them run amok in Suicide Squad #14, Ambush Bug uses an unorthodox strategy to defeat them—and it may spell doom for the multiverse later. The issue is on sale now in print and digital.
Superboy returned to the mainstream DC Universe during 1993’s epic Reign of the Supermen; he was a clone, created from bits of Superman’s DNA by the mysterious Cadmus Project. Every incarnation of the character since, even his New 52 reboot, retained the clone aspect. Recently, Superboy seemingly joined the Suicide Squad, under threats from Amanda Waller; Waller was assembling the ultimate version of the Suicide Squad, which she would use to help conquer Earth-3 and seal it off from the rest of the multiverse. Other members of her team included Peacemaker, Rick Flag and Ambush Bug—all three of whom later learn of Waller’s true intentions, turning on her. Readers learn that the “Superboy” who joined the team was actually another clone, one that deteriorated rapidly, turning him into something less than human. Despite this, and Flag’s opposition, Waller was successful in taking over Earth-3, with the defective Superboy clone staying behind. However, there are always consequences, and readers see them in Suicide Squad #14. The issue is written by Dennis Hopeless, illustrated by Eduardo Pansica, Julio Ferreira and Dexter Soy, colored by Jeremiah Skipper and Peter Pantazis and lettered by Wes Abbott.
