Amy Schumer has said that her new Hulu series Life & Beth will explore the complicated real-life relationship she has with her mom. The comedy-drama series co-stars Michael Cera (Arrested Development), who will portray a character called John. Schumer plays Beth, who forms an unlikely friendship with John after an accident causes her to have flashbacks to her teen years, leading her to change the direction of her life and to live more freely. Life & Beth is Schumer and Cera's first collaboration and a first trailer for the series has given a peek at what's in store.
Schumer became known in the entertainment industry as a stand-up comedian, often appearing on Comedy Central and even getting her own comedy sketch show, Inside Amy Schumer, for which she won a Peabody Award and was nominated for a number of Emmys. The show came to an end after four seasons, but she's since starred in several comedy feature films such as I Feel Pretty and Snatched. She also made her feature film writing debut with the Judd Apatow-directed Trainwreck. Her style of comedy is often raucous and relatable with a feminist edge that doesn't shy away from difficult themes. Trainwreck explored Schumer's relationship with her dad, and now, Life & Beth — the title of which comes from Schumer's middle name - will continue to take inspiration from the parental relationships in her life.
