A new documentary, The Making of a Haunting: The Amityville Murders, will explore the true story behind the infamous haunted house. The Amityville house and its grizzly past inspired the Jay Anson novel The Amityville Horror, which in turnled to a slew of movies based on the supernatural terror felt by the Lutz family, which saw them leave the property a mere 28 days after moving in. Despite making waves in the horror circuit, in particular with the 1977 classic The Amityville horror and its 2005 reimagining starring Ryan Reynolds, the true story behind the supernatural folktale is just as terrifying as the horror franchise it spawned. The Amityville story goes much further beyond purported paranormal exploits, weaving an unnerving tale of mass murder in suburban America that laid the groundwork for one of the more prolific horror stories of all time.

And now, a new documentary will deep-dive into the story behind one of the most famous hauntings in America. As reported by Variety, following Epix's presentation at the Television Critics Association 2022 winter press tour, The Making of a Haunting: The Amityville Murders will explore the events that made the movie franchise an icon of horror. The 4-part series is being produced by B17 Entertainment, with Lesley Chilcott, Blaine Duncan, Brooklyn Hudson, Amanda Raymond, Rhett Bachner, and Brien Meagher signed on to executively produce the docuseries.
