Amazing NASA photo of our neighbouring Andromeda Galaxy released
NASA released the incredibly detailed image of the neighbouring Andromeda Galaxy on June 7. In the image released on NASA’s all social media platforms, the galaxy was surrounded by stars and cosmic dust, creating an incredible image.
The amazing image was captured by NASA’s Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE). NASA captioned the picture on social media platforms as, "Our neighbor in space, the immense Andromeda galaxy, is captured in this image taken by the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE). Located about 2.5 million light-years from our Sun, Andromeda is the closest large galaxy to our Milky Way galaxy.”

"This galactic mosaic is a four-color composite using all of WISE's infrared detectors, where blue represents far-ultraviolet light, green represents mid-way ultraviolet light, and red is near-ultraviolet light. The galaxy's backbone of mature stars is visible in blue, while the yellow and red rings show dust heated by newborn, massive stars,” the space agency added.
NASA’s WISE telescope has been able to capture this image in incredible detail due to the Andromeda galaxy being only 2.5 million light-years away from Earth. The WISE telescope and its cousin the Hubble Telescope are capable of capturing images of galaxies billions of light-years away.
NASA says that both the Milky Way Galaxy and the Andromeda Galaxy are part of the galaxies known as the “Local Group”, which according to astronomers is a neighbourhood in space consisting of around 50 galaxies.
