Hulu recently released the first trailer for its upcoming eight-episode miniseries, The Dropout, starring Amanda Seyfried as the lead. The Dropout tells the story of Theranos founder and CEO, Elizabeth Holmes (Seyfried), following the rise of success in her career and then ultimately her devastating downfall.
Actress and comedian Kate McKinnon was originally cast as Holmes for Hulu's The Dropout, but left the project without citing a real reason. Practically the next day, the series wasted no time re-casting Seyfried to take her place, and from the first looks of the Dropout trailer alone, it seems to have been the right decision.

In The Dropout, the series recounts Holmes dropping out of Stanford University to found Theranos, a blood testing startup that claimed to produce rapid blood tests while simultaneously requiring smaller amounts of blood. Theranos was valued at around 9 billion in 2015, yet the accounts of fraud came to the surface nearly a year later. Holmes was subsequently charged and found guilty of four out of eleven federal fraud charges. In the trailer, Seyfried perfectly captures the anxiety ridden, frantic determination of the young Holmes.
However, Seyfried is far from alone in this endeavor. She is joined by quite an A-list cast alongside her on-screen. The Dropout also stars Naveen Andrews, William H. Macy, Laurie Metcalf, Elizabeth Marvel, Kate Burton, and many more. Seyfried will be producing the series as well, along with 20th Television, Searchlight Television, and Semi-Formal Productions.
