Warner Bros. has released the first trailer for its upcoming Elvis Presley movie, showing off Once Upon In Hollywood's Austin Butler as the iconic rockstar and Tom Hanks as his manager, Colonel Tom Parker. The film will dig into the relationship between the two.
The Great Gatsby director Baz Luhrmann will helm the Elvis movie. It was filmed in Australia, and went through multiple delays due to COVID. In fact, Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson were among the most high-profile western coronavirus patients in March 2020 when Hanks was in Australia filming the movie.
The Elvis movie will dig into the life and musical career of Elvis «through the prism of his complicated relationship with his enigmatic manager...»
«The story will delve into their complex dynamic spanning over 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom, against the backdrop of the evolving cultural landscape and loss of innocence in America,» Warner Bros. said.
Luhrmann said he heard about Butler for his performance in The Iceman Cometh on Broadway opposite Denzel Washington. «I knew unequivocally that I had found someone who could embody the spirit of one of the world's most iconic musical figures,» Luhrmann said.
Elvis is due for release on June 24, 2022. Before Butler won the role, Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Harry Styles, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were reportedly in the mix for the part of Elvis.
