Developer and publisher Crate Entertainment released the first trailer for its upcoming strategy game, Farthest Frontier. First announced in January of last year, Farthest Frontier was revealed to be the latest project from the Grim Dawn developer. It is a 4X strategy game that will enter early access sometime this year.
The trailer doesn’t reveal too much, but it does give players a good look at the graphics. At a glance, one thing is clear, everything is extremely detailed. Be it buildings, environments, or people, this looks to be a game that has plenty to offer visually. This isn’t too surprising given that Grim Dawn is also a very good-looking game.
While Grim Dawn shared a lot in common with isometric RPGs, like Diablo, Farthest Frontier instead looks to improve on the formula established by Banished. It is a strategy game that challenges you to make the correct decisions to keep your people alive. With the right management, even the smallest village has the potential to blossom into a thriving city.
Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t tell us when we can try out Farthest Frontier. Those interested can add it to their Steam wishlist to stay in the know. Once available, it is expected to remain in early access for four to eight months, after which, the full version will officially release.
It’s never easy launching a new IP as an independent company, but Crate Entertainment does have more support than your typical indie studio. Grim Dawn is a very popular game that still remains relevant five years after its initial launch.
Even if Farthest Frontier is a large departure from its last game, there’s a general feeling of positivity about it. The studio has already proven that it can make a great game without any help.
