The Quarry looks set to be the true sequel to Until Dawn, as the new teen horror game reveals an impressively star-studded cast.
There might never have been an official Until Dawn sequel but British developer Supermassive Games has certainly done everything they can to continue the original’s legacy with their own titles.
Whatever falling out they had with Sony saw them move on to The Dark Pictures Anthology series, which after a rocky start finally came good with third entry House Of Ashes.
Plenty more are scheduled after that, as revealed by a recent series of leaks, but The Quarry, to be published by 2K, is entirely separate – even though it sounds very much like the same sort of thing.
As with all of Supermassive’s games The Quarry has a surprisingly star-studded cast, including David Arquette from Scream, Ariel Winter from Modern Family, Justice Smith from Detective Pikachu, Brand Song from Dollface, Lin Shaye from A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Lance Henriksen from Aliens. (And Ted Raimi, who for some reason isn’t even mentioned in the press release.)
As with the previous games, there seems to be only limited gameplay, with most of the excitement coming from having to make split second decisions that can mean the instant death of a character.
The branching narrative means either everyone can make it to the end of the story or no one, with The Quarry boasting variable difficulty levels and the option to just watch the whole thing as an uninteractive movie.
Alternatively, you can play it with up to seven friends online or via a couch co-op experience where everyone picks a character each to control.
