Alone in the Dark, the classic survival horror series, returns courtesy of Pieces Interactive.
As announced during today’s THQ showcase, the publisher is reviving Alone in the Dark after acquiring the franchise from Atari SA in 2018. Described as a “love letter” to the original series, Alone in the Dark once again follows private investigator Edward Carnby as he dives into Derceto Manor, a home for the mentally fatigued.
Alongside Edward, players will also play as Emily Hartwood, the niece of the manor’s missing owner. Each character will experience the events of the game from a unique perspective. Check out the first trailer below.
Alone in the Dark will tell a new, original story but still reimagine elements of the 90s survival horror video game including characters, places, and themes from the original. You'll fight through horrifying monsters while solving puzzles and exploring Derceto Manor at your peril.
During a briefing with media, the developers revealed that one important theme for Alone in the Dark is to channel the flavors of Southern Gothic, which is particularly appropriate given the Louisiana setting. We also saw gameplay which included a third-person perspective with Edward shooting at some particularly gnarly monsters.
Pieces Interactive has brought in Mikael Hedberg as the lead writer on the game. Hedberg previously wrote the horror games Amnesia: The Dark Descent and SOMA for Frictional Games
Alonge in the Dark will be released for next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, as well as PC.
