Alone In The Dark Reboot Announced By THQ Nordic
THQ Nordic has announced a reboot of Alone in the Dark is in development at its 2022 showcase.
During its 2022 showcase, one of THQ's biggest announcements of the night was the reveal of a reboot of its Alone in the Dark series. THQ debuted the reveal trailer for the game, which shows it to be a third-person survival horror similar to Resident Evil 4, although seemingly with a bigger focus on puzzles and psychological horror.

This "reimagined" version of Alone in the Dark features Emily Hartwood and Edward Carnby arriving at Decerto Manor, where they encounter "strange residents, portals to nightmarish worlds, dangerous monsters - and ultimately a plot of rising evil and its followers". Players will be able to choose between playing as Emily or Edward, who will each encounter different scenarios during their campaigns.
Although Alone in the Dark is taking inspiration from the original trilogy of Alone in the Dark games, THQ notes that it incorporates a completely original story. There's also a much clearer focus on psychological horror this time around, which is likely in part thanks to its main story writer, Mikael Hedberg, the writer of SOMA and Amnesia.
Interestingly, this iteration of Alone in the Dark purposefully seems to be taking a different direction than the last iteration, which released in 2008 and received a pretty lukewarm reception. Rather than taking place in a mansion, it took place across New York City after it had been attacked by some kind of paranormal force. This version of Alone in the Dark is clearly much closer to the original vision for the game, although also taking some notes from recent survival horror games.
