An Ahoska live-action TV series is being produced for Disney+, and its best storyline means bad news for a possible animated Star Wars Rebels sequel. From the moment Rosario Dawson guest-starred in The Mandalorian season 2 as a live-action version of the Clone Wars character Ahsoka, the idea that she would get her own Disney+ series became increasingly likely. Subsequently, the Ahsoka show was announced, placing a question as to what the Lucasfilm plans for the storylines set up in Rebels are.
Before showing up in The Mandalorian, the last chronological Ahsoka appearance had been in Star Wars Rebels. While Ahsoka was not the main character in Rebels like she was in Clone Wars, the character had a lot of screentime in Rebels season 2, which ended with her iconic confrontation with Darth Vader. Ahsoka would then return for key moments in Star Wars Rebels season 4.

Given Star Wars Rebels’ final scene, in which Ahsoka meets with Sabine to begin looking for Ezra, there is really no better storyline for Ahsoka than the search for Ezra and Thrawn. In fact, it was revealed in The Mandalorian season 2 that Ahsoka is still looking for Thrawn. However, if Ezra’s whereabouts storyline teased at the end of Rebels is transferred to live-action, then the chances of a sequel or any form of animated follow-up to Rebels is getting considerably lower. The Star Wars Rebels’ finale was clearly not meant to be a definite end to the story, and many were taking for granted that Dave Filoni would soon pick up the plotline of Ahsoka and Sabine looking for Ezra.
