Just before Samsung takes off the wraps from its Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4, Xiaomi jumped in to spoil Samsung's limelight. On August 11, Xiaomi is hosting a launch event in China for launching a couple of new products. While there is a new premium TWS earbud and a Xiaomi Pad 5 Pro 12.4-inch tablet, the limelight goes on the Xiaomi MIX Fold 2. While the features of the phone are yet to be revealed, Xiaomi teases a very slim design of the phone. In fact, the phone is just about as thick as a USB-C charging port.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 seems to have the same kind of form factor as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. The phone appears to have a gold paintjob and the focus is on making the handset slim. It remains to be seen how the slim body of the phone affects the rest of the phone's core features; the prime concern being its battery life. It also remains to be seen how Xiaomi specs up the MIX Fold 2, which is its second foldable smartphone.
The Xiaomi MIX Fold 2 is teased to feature Leica branded cameras and we won't be surprised to see the same camera sensors from the Xiaomi 12S Pro making it to the foldable. Xiaomi could most likely use the latest components such as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a high refresh rate main display that folds from the center.
What remains to be seen is whether Xiaomi brings this foldable device to global markets. The first generation Mi MIX Fold was limited to the Chinese market. In 2022, we have seen Xiaomi taking the fight up to Samsung and Apple with its flagships.
