Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend is a major new expansion coming for the historical real time strategy title. The expansion adds a new single player campaign set in the Middle East, as well as two new civilisations to take command of, those being the Byzantines and the Japanese. The teaser trailer shows glimpses of the units and action from those factions.
Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend campaign is set during the Crusades. Players will take up the mantle of various Muslim leaders as they seek to repel the European Crusaders, who are intent on taking Jerusalem. It will be a tough campaign and feature a lot of battles across the Middle East as the Christian army gathers its strength to strike at one of the strategic hearts of the Middle East and Muslim world.
Along with the new campaign, as well as the addition of the Byzantines and Japanese, Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend will also add four new playable variant civilisations, ten new maps, and two new biomes.
In our Age of Empires IV review, Dom wrote, “Age of Empires 4 is a deeply enjoyable return for the series. It puts history front and centre, and opts to refresh its gameplay instead of reinvent it. That may not be enough for some. Then again, when you’ve got a series that’s remained the base template for RTS games for more than twenty years, who can blame them?”
Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend will be available from November 14th on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
