A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead story trailer shows off snippets of noisy gameplay
Saber Interactive and developer Stormind have shared a new trailer (via IGN) for A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, their horror game based off the popular film franchise. Check it out:
As you can see from the trailer, there’s a snippet of incident from Day One of the alien monster invasion, setting up the relationship between protagonist Alex, an asthmatic college student, and her boyfriend Martin. We then skip ahead to Day 105, with Martin and Alex exploring the devastated world looking to scavenge from a house that mysteriously still has power.
There’s some nice touches here like using basic hand and head communication to direct one another, messages saying not to scream even in the “safe” room, and we see how opening doors works – you latch on and then can move it open slowly before releasing. Unfortunately it seems that the world was also in the grip of a fictional shortage of WD40 and oil-based lubricants, and North America in the very real shortage of decent sex education, because all of the hinges in the world are very creaky and Alex is very, very pregnant. That’s not good because things related to babies and baby making are famously not quiet.
Other things that aren’t noisy? Cars, shotguns and alarms. Oh dear…
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is in development by Stormind Games, who are best known for the psychological horror Remothered: Broken Porcelain and Tormented Fathers, as well as action RPG Batora: Lost Haven. This looks to be a big step up for the studio, but they’re leaning into the right ideas and tropes that will fit well with a video game, though the trailer clearly plucked out some of the more action-y moments that put the Quiet Place monsters in frame. I’d expect the overarching pacing to be much more considered and slower paced, though.
A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead is set to release for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC later this year.
