Sony’s recent fiscal results have painted a healthy picture for the state of PlayStation, with the PS5 having crossed 38.4 million worldwide shipments to date. Meanwhile, some interesting details have also come to light on the software front.
As per Sony’s quarterly fiscal report, in Q4 of FY 2022/23 (January-March), it saw a total of 68 million software sales across PS5 and PS4, which is down from the previous year’s Q4 sales of 70.5 million units. Throughout the entire fiscal year, meanwhile, software sales on PS5 and PS4 stand at 264.2 million units, which is also down from the previous fiscal year’s sales of 303.2 million units.
One area where Sony has confirmed an increase, however, is the ratio of digital sales in those numbers, which 67% of all software sales throughout the fiscal year having been digital. For the previous year, that figure stood at 66%.
Recently, Sony also confirmed that it plans to ship 25 million units of the PS5 in the current fiscal year, which will be the most shipments any PlayStation platform has ever seen in a single fiscal year. Read more on that through here.
