George MacKay, who played the everyman hero in the critically acclaimed World War I drama 1917, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett of Nia DaCosta's Candyman, are set to star in a thrilling drag queen revenge tale titled Femme. MacKay is a British film actor who has been acting on the stage and screen since he was a child. Still, his role as Lance corporal William Schofield in Sam Mendes' Oscar-winning film 1917 brought the actor to an international audience. Stewart-Jarrett is a fellow British actor who's also done work for the stage and television, but his most recent role on the silver screen was as Troy Cartwright, whose tales of the lore around 'Candyman' set his sister's boyfriend (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) off on a path of artistic obsession.

According to Variety, the two Brits are set to star in the new thriller Femme from directors Sam H. Freeman and Ng Choon Ping, whose short film of the same name was nominated at the BAFTAs and won Best Short Film at the British Independent Film Awards. Their short film version of Femme is set in London, and production of the feature-length film is scheduled to start shooting in London, U.K., within the next month. The film will receive financing from BBC Film and Anton, and will be produced by Myles Payne and Sam Ritzenberg. On the nature of the film, the directors stated that they wanted to take a genre that "often excludes the queer perspective" and make a film that will «invert expectations.» Read Freeman and Ping's full comment below:
