Tonight will see Sony hold a State of Play that will focus almost entirely on Japanese developers. Other studios from around the world will see a brief mention, but otherwise it will be 20 minutes of unfiltered Japanese goodness. All my favourite games, with only a handful of exceptions, come from Japan, so to say I’m excited would be an understatement.
Final Fantasy, Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, Resident Evil, Persona, Nier, Knack - the list is endless. I doubt we’ll see all or even any of these show up tonight, but that won’t stop me from dreaming about the potential projects I’d love to see Sony indulge in. In recent years PlayStation has adopted a more western perspective with its blockbuster exclusives, so maybe tonight could be a changing of the tide. My fingers are crossed, so let’s get into it.

While Square Enix and Naoki Yoshida have been providing subtle hints about the game's development over the past year, we haven't seen anything substantial from Final Fantasy 16 since before the PS5's release.
Acting as a flagship exclusive for the console, Sony will likely want to dedicate a large portion of the presentation to a new trailer and/or gameplay footage. It isn't coming to any other platforms and we are well overdue for some news, so with any luck FF16 will make a splash tonight.
It adopts a far more mature interpretation of fantasy than previous games, clearly taking inspiration from The Witcher 3 and Game of Thrones with its excessive drama and dark, twisted world. I can't wait for this one.
