Using Epic Games' impressive Unreal Engine 5 technology, a World of Warcraft player recreated the classic Orgrimmar map in stunning detail. Epic first showcased its all-new game engine in May 2020 tech demo for PlayStation 5. The real-time demo ran roughly nine minutes in length, offering a look at enclosed underground spaces and a sprawling landscape. Interestingly, Epic's very own battle royale, Fortnite, became the first game to be powered by the latest Unreal technology.
Since the tools became accessible, several developers around the globe have committed to using Unreal Engine 5, including the likes of The Coalition, Konami, Crystal Dynamics, and CD Projekt Red. In fact, the latter team plans to utilize UE5 for the next mainline Witcher game. Others have enjoyed the benefits of the engine's powerful tools, too. Myrkur Games Environment Artist Christian Gomm used Unreal to recreate The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim's Riverwood locale, for example. YouTuber Just An Idea showcased what a Metal Gear Solid remake could look like in Unreal Engine 5. Earlier this year, one fan even gave Ocarina of Time a new lease on life in the powerful engine. If another fan-made World of Warcraft build is anything to go by, such creative efforts won't come to a halt anytime soon.
