Tesla has plans to rapidly accelerate developments on FSD (Full Self-Driving), due to which the tech giant has unveiled a $300 million AI supercomputer featuring 10,000 NVIDIA H100s.
Tesla has pushed down the throttle regarding its plans for FSD, and the new AI supercomputer will surely aid in developing the feature. Tesla has reportedly upgraded from NVIDIA's A100s, bringing in about five times more computing performance, reaching up to 340 FP64 PFLOPS, which is significantly high compared to other supercomputers in the industry.
Elon Musk has set his sights on FSD, expressing it as the future of Tesla. The company has devoted its resources to the evolution of the feature, which is still in its initial stages. With the start of its $1 billion Dojo supercomputer by 2024, Tesla will have colossal computing power onboard, giving it an edge over other automakers, especially regarding features that will harness the power of AI.
Tesla plans to spend well over $4 billion toward the growth of FSD and AI models, which reveals that the future is indeed exciting for the industry. However, the significant hindrance behind such huge ambitions is the difficulty in acquiring NVIDIA's AI GPUs, due to the immense demand followed by supply-chain bottlenecks. Elon has expressed that AI GPUs are harder to buy than "drugs," ultimately portraying the industry's situation.
The future is bright for the automotive industry, especially through the aid of AI, when it comes to integrating it into our daily lives. Tesla's ambitions with FSD will prove revolutionary for the industry, given that it is developed and tested to perfection.
