One detail in Godzilla vs. Kong hinted at a much bigger ancient Titan War than what was discussed in the movie. It was confirmed early on that Godzilla’s species and the Kongs have been involved in a war that dates back thousands – if not millions – of years. At some point in the MonsterVerse’s history, the ancestors of the two titular Titans engaged in an epic clash in the hidden Hollow Earth world.
Since there’s obviously a limit on how much the human characters could know about the fighting that took place all those years ago, very little was said about the Titan War in Godzilla vs. Kong. However, such a battle has been hinted at since Kong: Skull Island when a post-credits scene revealed a painting of the two monsters fighting. It was made clear then that the two have a long and rich history in the MonsterVerse timeline. Titan skeletons and the presence of axes made from Godzilla’s dorsal fins in the Hollow Earth temple provided a glimpse at the carnage that transpired when the two sides collided in the distant past. It helped paint a picture of an army of Kongs coming together to battle a horde of Godzillas in the Hollow Earth.

Interestingly, the Godzilla vs. Kong opening credits included a shot that pointed toward the possibility of the Titan War being on an even larger scale than the movie suggested. A painting depicting a battle between Godzilla and Kong seemingly included Mothra and a Skullcrawler. Their inclusion in the mural is indicative of both taking part in the conflict.
