YouTube down: It appears that the online video sharing and social media platform YouTube is facing an outage based on reports. Hundreds of users have reported facing challenges in running basic functionalities of the website including playing a video and loading pages after searching for a particular keyword. At this moment, it is not clear how widespread the issue is, but the majority of the reports have been coming in from the USA. The issue was recorded by DownDetector, an independent outage monitor, which noticed huge spikes for YouTube since today morning. Based on the reports, it does not seem that the issue has been resolved as of yet.
The official Twitter account of DownDetector also tweeted about the incident, saying, “User reports indicate Youtube is having problems since 12:25 AM EDT”. The first spike was observed at 8:07 AM IST which dropped within an hour. Soon, at 9:22 AM IST, a larger spike was observed with as many as 432 reports highlighting that YouTube is not working as expected.
This appears to be a partial outage, which means while the website is not entirely down, certain features are not working for everyone. It also seems to be sporadic as not everyone is facing the issue even in the region where the reports have been coming in. DownDetector has highlighted that the majority of the reports are coming from the US regions like Los Angeles, New York, Dallas, Washington, Phoenix and San Francisco. Whether other countries are also facing the issue remains to be seen.
