Microsoft has created the "world's first floating Xbox controller" in celebration of Dune: Part 2, alongside a special (and dare we say bizarre) Xbox Series S.
Revealed on the Xbox Wire, the controller doesn't technically float itself but sits atop a stand that does. "A specially designed console holder inspired by the Ornithopter captures the vibrant colours of Arrakis’s sun, planets, and sand," the post said.
"This custom Xbox Series S is a true collector’s item for fans. In addition, Xbox introduces the world’s first floating Xbox Controller. Hovering above oceans of sand dunes like an Ornithopter, the visually stunning design will look great in any living room."
The Xbox Series S console takes the inspiration a little more literally, creating a giant, much less subtle stand that looks like the flying machine. An orange version of the console slots into the back.
Like most of Microsoft's fancy Xbox controllers, this set of hardware can only be won in a competition. Fans must follow Xbox on X/Twitter and retweet the official Xbox sweepstakes post between February 13 and March 25, 2024.
The competition begins ahead of Dune: Part 2's release date on March 1 and in celebration of the Dune expansion coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator today, February 13, which lets players ride virtual versions of an Ornithopter around Arrakis.
Microsoft is well-known for creating wild and wacky controllers, with Xbox Series X and S generation highlights including red and blue fluffy Sonic the Hedgehog gamepads, one made out of actual Jade, and even an edible gamepad.
Its more regular line of controllers including the sexy Gold Shadow, cosmic Stellar Shift, dusty Stormcloud Vapor, and even an Earth Day one made partly from recycled CDs, water jugs, and other Xbox controller parts.
