Will Smith has posted a video apologizing for his behavior at the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony. During the telecast, comedian Chris Rock was onstage presenting when he made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's bald hairstyle, saying that he couldn't wait to see her in G.I. Jane 2, referencing the fact that Demi Moore went bald for the first movie. Upset by the comedian making fun of his wife, who has been diagnosed with alopecia, Smith shouted at Rock, saying to "keep my wife's name out of your f–ing mouth," coming onstage, and slapping Rock across the face before returning to his seat.
The aftermath of this moment was chaotic, to say the least. While all three stars involved made their own individual statements briefly addressing the event and Smith resigned from the Academy, the Academy itself — in the middle of being embroiled in a controversy over contradictory reports concerning whether or not they asked Smith to leave the ceremony — banned the Men in Black actor from participating in Academy events for ten years. This week, the incident has been in the news again, as Rock addressed the slap during a recent show, saying that he is "not a victim."

On Friday, Smith used his YouTube account to share an official apology for the incident at the Oscars. It opens on the title card "It's been a minute… Over the last few months, I've been doing a lot of thinking and personal work… You asked a lot of fair questions that I wanted to take some time to answer." The title card is followed by Smith sitting down and addressing the camera, answering some of the most frequently asked questions about the slap. Check out the video below:
