Wil Wheaton responds to the recent news that Star Trek: Picard season 3 will include a massive Next Generation reunion, but notably without Wesley Crusher. Currently, Paramount+'s second live-action Star Trek series is unspooling its long-awaited season 2. After being delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, Picard season 2 premiered in early March and swiftly plunged Jean-Luc (Patrick Stewart) and his current crew into a new time-traveling adventure. So far, fans have been treated to return appearances from TNG characters Q (John De Lancie) and Guinan (Whoopi Goldberg), but evidently the series has been holding its biggest event for its final season.
As revealed earlier this week, Star Trek: Picard season 3 will feature nearly the entirety of The Next Generation's main cast. Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner will all have substantial roles in the season, which has been confirmed to be Picard's last. Star Trek fans were immediately alight with excitement over the news, but many noticed something missing in the announcement. Or rather, someone, as Wheaton was not included among the list of TNG alums returning for Picard season 3. Wheaton played young Wesley Crusher throughout TNG's run; he was a series regular for 4 seasons before making occasional appearances as a guest.
