Marvel's X-Men is one of the company's oldest franchises and super-teams, but there's one reason why the mutants can easily claim victory over the publisher's other famous superhero squads like the Avengers...and even the Eternals. The mutant reactionary force has saved the planet on numerous occasions — even the solar system and beyond — and is no doubt powerful in their own right. But when it comes to fighting against other Marvel teams, Devil's Reign: X-Men #1 proves why the X-Men have the edge.
Initially, the X-Men's roster was quite small. The so-called «first class» enrolled in Professor Charles Xavier's school consisted of Cyclops, Angel, Beast and Iceman in the first issue — but Jean Grey also joined the team in the same story, dubbed Marvel Girl (until she dropped codenames altogether in future adventures). As time passed the X-Men's roster would practically expand exponentially in size, to the point where it is now easier to write a list of mutants in Marvel comics who haven't operated on the team (nefarious mutant enemies of the X-Men notwithstanding, though even Magneto joined the team in several stories).

In Devil's Reign: X-Men #1, the mutants go up against the Kingpin's underlings, which at this moment happens to be the powerful Thunderbolts.
