During a recent livestream, CD Projekt Red developers confirmed the Witcher series' new Gwent game, tentativley titled Project Golden Nekker, will not release on consoles. CDPR announced its next Gwent card game spinoff earlier this year, promising a single-player, standalone package. Notably, Project Golden Nekker will mark the third Gwent spinoff, the first two of which were previously released for players on PC, console, and mobile platforms.
Gwent: The Witcher Card Game constituted the first of such adventures, originally launching on PC in October 2018 before migrating to PS4 and Xbox One in subsequent months. The title eventually landed on Android, iOS, and Mac devices as well, bringing CD Projekt Red's expanded version of the collectible card game to as many platforms as possible. Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales launched around the same time as Gwent; the former acted as a narrative-driven companion piece to the latter, complete with a 30-hour campaign that placed Queen Meve at the center of attention. The card battle-based Gwent gameplay in Thronebreaker proved a winning formula, but the free-to-play nature of Gwent meant it received the bulk of CDPR's post-launch support efforts. As such, many were disappointed in December 2019 when the team revealed plans to cease Gwent support on PS4 and Xbox One.
