After returning in The Flash for what seemed to be his last time as Batman, Ben Affleck will now also appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, raising the question of why the DCEU can’t let fully go of Affleck’s version of the character. Following Jason Momoa’s cryptic Instagram post featuring Ben Affleck on the set for Aquaman 2, it has been reported that Affleck will indeed appear as Batman in the Aquaman sequel. Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is now set to premiere before The Flash, meaning that the fate of Ben Affleck’s Batman still very much depends on the latter.
Affleck was reluctant in playing a superhero again after Daredevil (2003), but Snyder’s pitch for a Frank Miller’s Dark Knight Returns-inspired Batman sold the actor on the project. Ben Affleck was set to be Batman in Snyder’s Justice League films, as well as in a solo Batman movie in which he would also serve as the director. However, after a troubling experience in Justice League and personal issues, Ben Affleck ended up passing on the opportunity to direct his own solo Batman movie and later announced that he was out of the role entirely.

That said, Ben Affleck put on the cape and the cowl one more time for the Snyder Cut – namely the additional «Knightmare Timeline» scenes. Affleck had been onboard with Snyder’s vision since the beginning, and it was no surprise that he returned to help the director with his final Justice League cut.
