A Respawn Entertainment listing recently revealed something interesting for Apex Legends fans. It would seem that a single-player Apex Legends game is in development, with the listing specifying the Apex Universe. This terminology has not really been used at large before, and many fans were quick to catch on to this.
Many hope that it means a new Titanfall game is in the works, although this is incredibly unlikely, while the pendulum also quickly swept the other way. Some Titanfall fans were upset that it didn’t say Titanfall universe. This is important because, back when Apex Legends leaked ahead of its surprise launch, it was coined as a battle royale game set in theTitanfall universe. This doesn’t backtrack that, but it does change it significantly.

Apex Legends and Titanfall share a universe—they always have and always will. It’s sometimes more subtle and sometimes more blatant. Apex Legends takes place 30 years afterTitanfall, includes the Apex Predators from the latter, shares several weapons, and some legends, like Valkyrie, have backgrounds defined byTitanfall lore. Apex Legends was conceived as a battle royale title set inTitanfall’s Universe, and while those two markers will always be shared, Apex Legends is a huge success for Respawn and EA.
To change the terminology based on that idea is not surprising; it doesn’t nullify theTitanfall universe either. It’s just using the more prevalent term.
