Indie survival horror sensation Poppy Playtime just released its second chapter, but its new price point raises some questions, as it costs double the amount Chapter 1 did when it released. Compared to MOB Games' first entry in the series, which initially cost $4.99 but is now free, Chapter 2: Fly in a Web costs $9.99. Episodic game series like these tend to establish a price per chapter and stick with it so fans know what to expect upfront, but there is an explanation for why Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 costs slightly more than its predecessor.
Poppy Playtime'sstory and lore captivated and confounded many players when it was first released in October of 2021. Its blend of realism with horrific yet cartoonish creatures and its short length inspired a lot of praise. Chapter 2 picks up immediately after the cliffhanger Chapter 1 presented, with players freeing Poppy and defeating the dreaded Huggy Wuggy. This next part of the story has a new antagonist, Mommy Long Legs, a pink spidery doll that chases players as they venture further into the Playtime Co. factory to unravel its mysteries.

MOB Games states on Poppy Playtime'sSteam page that Chapter 2 is "triple the size of Chapter 1." This is presumably the reason for its higher cost, and the longer runtime might justify the price difference for most players. Whereas the first chapter took around 40 minutes to an hour to complete, if the developers' claim holds true, Poppy Playtime Chapter 2 should last at least two hours.
