“Did you know that if you were born like a couple hundred years earlier, you would have to live outside and fight for every meal you ever had?” Tyler Madeley asks his TikTok-famous golden retriever Maple in a video on the platform. Hashtagged #fyp #foryou #foryoupage #goldenretriever #goldenretrieverlife, it’s become one of the most popular original sounds(Opens in a new window) on TikTok because such is the power of golden retrievers on DogTok.
PuppyHero.com(Opens in a new window) found that #dog has 244.8 billion views on TikTok and decided to analyze 218 dog breeds to see which ones got the most views. It found that golden retrievers like Maple got 21.2 billion views, German shepherds earned 9.1 billion views, rottweilers had 8 billion, pugs had 6.7 billion, French bulldogs earned 5.4 billion, labrador retrievers had 5.3 billion, bulldogs had 5.2 billion, Pomeranians had 5 billion, poodles had 3.4 billion, and border collies had 2.9 billion.
Maybe the most famous dog on TikTok is Noodle, a pug who made the phrase “no bones day(Opens in a new window)” famous. A “bones day" for Noodle is when he feels like standing up, and a “no bones day” is when he just can’t be bothered. It’s a feeling pretty much anybody can relate to, canine or not.
If your dog’s breed is not on this list, and they (and you) have dreams of TikTok fame like Noodle’s, do not despair. First, all dogs are good dogs, of course. And second, PuppyHero.com created its list from just the official American Kennel Club breeds. Which means pit bulls—the best breed, speaking from personal bias here—weren’t even up for consideration. Don’t agree with me? Check out the adorable Baloo(Opens in a new window).
