WhatsApp is likely to withdraw its support from several Android devices and iPhones by this month only. The Facebook-owned texting platform WhatsApp has updated the list of devices in one of its blog posts. The platform stops supporting older versions of Android, iOS operating systems, and older models of smartphones as a part of yearly upgradation.
Whatsapp has revealed that it will stop working on more than 30 smartphones, starting from January 2022. The list includes Samsung Galaxy phones, iPhone 6S, iPhone SE, HTC Desire 500, Sony Xperia M, LG Optimus F7, and many more. Considering that these companies have millions of users, this drastic step by WhatsApp will affect millions of users.
According to a report shared by Sproutweird, WhatsApp will stop supporting many older phones in Brazil. There are over 2 2 billion active WhatsApp users worldwide, with over 100 million in Brazil alone. However, it is not clarified whether this will apply to any other part of the world, including India.
Since, many of these smartphones on the WhatsApp list are being used in India too, it is a matter of concern for Indian users as well. However, any confirmation about WhatsApp support for Indian users is still awaited.
iPhone users with iOS 9 or less will no longer be able to access WhatsApp and send messages, photos, videos, or any other services provided by the platform. Hence, if your iPhone or operating system is old, then you won’t be able to install the updated version of WhatsApp and soon your WhatsApp will not function at all.
