WhatsApp, one of the most popular and widely used messaging applications, suffered major issues early Friday, April 29 and was down for around an hour. People using the messaging application were unable to send messages or chat, do a video call, among others. Taking to its official Twitter handle WhatsApp tweeted, "You may be experiencing some issues using WhatsApp at the moment. We’re aware and working to get things running smoothly again. We’ll keep you updated and in the meantime, thanks for your patience."
As per a report by express.co.uk, people started observing the issues while using WhatsApp at around 9.30pm BST. Many users complained that their accounts were offline. However, after almost an hour of acknowledging the issue, WhatsApp fixed the issue. "And we're back. Happy chatting!," the messaging application tweeted. It can be known that it is not yet clear what caused the outage.

According to the information provided by Down Detector, which monitors web issues, most reported problems were related to sending WhatsApp messages (64 percent) followed by app (19 percent) and in receiving messages (17 percent).
Several WhatsApp users took to Twitter to inform about the issue, while some even asked Tesla CEO Elon Musk to buy WhatsApp. Commenting on WhatsApp's post acknowledging the issue, one user said, "Elon Musk arriving at WhatsApp HQ tomorrow to buy it." While one other said, "@elonmusk buy Whatsapp please." Some of the other comments read: "Poor service!! How are we getting compensated for the time wasted???"; "Why is WhatsApp always down."
