Rumors of a new Donkey Kong title have begun to surface and Nintendo fans are rightfully excited. The long-running franchise has yet to grace the Switch with a new game, its last release being Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze in 2014 and ported to the Switch in 2018. It's been too long since a Donkey Kong game came out, and Nintendo may be about to make the big ape's fans very happy.
It has been reported that Nintendo has recently updated the trademark for Donkey Kong, opening the possibility for a new game starring the iconic character in the near future. DK has starred in several games and series over the years, and a sequel could certainly be in the cards. The updated Donkey Kong trademark is described in a way that heavily implies a new video game is planned, giving plenty of hope for fans. Although many of his games are quite old at this point, he still has a very devoted fanbase that would be enthused by another title. Of course, if another Donkey Kong game is in the works, there is the lingering question of what it could be.

Most people's first guess would be another installment of Donkey Kong Country. The DKC games were some of the Super Nintendo's best platformers, and made Donkey Kong into a star. It not only marked DK's first appearance following the original Donkey Kong, but it also debuted many of the series' mainstays, such as Diddy, Funky, and Cranky Kong, as well as the Kremlings. In fact, it even revealed that Cranky Kong was Mario's old enemy, not the Donkey Kong players are most familiar with.
