May is a big month for Netflix. In the next couple of weeks, the streaming giant has tons of new movies and TV shows arriving--including the long-awaited return of Stranger Things on May 27. That won't be for a little bit still, making this a perfect week to catch up on some classic content and also roll the dice on something a little bit more off the beaten path.
Actor Omar Sy, who is excellent in Netflix's live-action Lupin, once again shines in the upcoming buddy cop comedy The Takedown. The film comes to Netflix on May 6, and teams Sy with Laurent Lafitte. The two star as cops with «very different styles, backgrounds, and careers.» If you love Sy in Lupin, there's every reason to believe you'll also appreciate The Takedown--they're both directed by Louis Leterrier. The movie is a sequel to 2012's On The Other Side Of The Tracks, and Leterrier told Deadline that this new film «pays homage to Lethal Weapon, 48 hours, but also the French film La Chèvre.» Check out the trailer below.
On May 1, U.S. Marshals, the under-appreciated 1998 spin-off to The Fugitive starring Harrison Ford comes to Netflix. Ford doesn't appear, but the film pivots to focus on that film's antagonist, United States Deputy Marshal Sam Gerard--again played by Tommy Lee Jones. In U.S. Marshals, Lee's character pursues another fugitive, Mark Sheridan, portrayed by Wesley Snipes. The cast also includes Robert Downey Jr. as DSS Special Agent John Royce. Pretty much everyone snoozed on it at the time, but the film is worth another look--even if you haven't seen the first one.
Below, you'll find everything coming to Netflix this upcoming week. And if you're looking ahead, check out what's coming to Netflix for the rest of May.
