The story in Destiny 2's latest expansion, The Witch Queen, was filled with plenty of huge moments, but one in particular has major implications for the future of the conflict between the Light and the Darkness. Released on Feb 22, Destiny 2's Witch Queen was well-reviewed and met with a largely positive response from players, even before the release of the Vow of the Disciple raid. Much of the praise came from the fact that lore for the Hive, one of Destiny's enemy races, finally came into the forefront after previously being relegated to Grimoire Cards accessed online. Toward the end of the story, however, everything that was once known about the race was upended.
[Warning: major spoilers for Destiny 2: The Witch Queen below.]
Many of the characters in Destiny were still in shock by the revelation that The Traveler, the planet-like being that gives Guardians their powers, actually gave Savathun the power of the Light. Previously, it was believed the Hive God of Cunning had somehow stolen the Light prior to the story of Destiny 2's Witch Queen expansion. This discovery paled in comparison to a later moment when Ikora Rey, accessing a memory from a worm that Savathun was once burdened with feeding to survive, saw that the Hive were actually tricked into embracing the Darkness and rejecting the Light. More specifically, Savathun (then Sathona) convinced her sisters Aurash (who would later become Oryx) and Xi Ro (who would later become Xivu Arath) to do so. This moment of deception completely changed the course of history in the world of Destiny. Imbued with the power of the Darkness, the Hive gods traveled the universe and destroyed countless civilizations before stumbling upon the Solar System.
