After three seasons of Welcome to Plathville, viewers are growing more curious about what religion the Plaths follow. Viewers have always felt they may be wrapped up in a cult or some extreme beliefs but are unsure. Now, fans are taking a deep dive into the belief system of Kim and Barry Plath.
Welcome to Plathville follows the lives of parents Kim and Barry and their nine children, Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Amber, Isaac, Mercy, and Cassia. The parents decided to raise their children on an isolated farm with strict rules. Both Kim and Barry believed that sugar, TV, and the outside world, in general, were immoral for their children even though they led normal lives themselves. Some of the older children started to rebel after realizing they were done a disservice by their parents, especially when it came to their education. Their upbringing had fans wondering whether it was a bad choice made by the parents or some strict religious beliefs.

The Plath family are Christian fundamentalists and are very similar to TLC's Duggar family. Kim and Barry have also been linked to No Greater Joy Ministries. This particular church is known to be a controversial Christian fundamentalist organization to which the Duggars have also been linked (via Distractify). The founders of the ministry, Michael and Debi Pearl, are authors of the highly criticized parenting book, To Train Up A Child. The book educates homeschooling parents on how to make their kids obey them. Ethan Plath once shared that his family would often travel to smaller Baptists churches since his parents "didn't agree with how a regular church system functioned."
