It would be wise for Warner Bros. Discovery's DCEU plan to revive a Batman project canceled over 20 years ago. Batman saw a resurgence of content in the '90s with both Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher's Batman movies, Warner Bros.' Batman: The Animated Series with Mark Hamill's iconic Joker, and the short-lived Batman Beyond animated show. This then led the Batman franchise to burst with content in the 2000s and 2010s, with Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy making a particular impact on Batman's legacy. With Robert Pattinson becoming the newest iteration of the Caped Crusader in Matt Reeves' The Batman, it only looks like the 2020s will continue this streak.
Movies outside of the DCEU have long had a positive impact on DC. Even though Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy didn't start the DCEU, it still helped set DC on the right path. The Nolan trilogy proved that DC films in the modern age could be incredibly successful even outside of the DCEU, which The Batman's box office-shattering numbers and 2019's Oscar-winning Joker further propagate. This helps set DC apart from the essentially serialized MCU, which provides a major advantage over the otherwise indomitable franchise.

Still, DC should recognize the success it's generating with its movies outside of the DCEU and look into reviving one previously axed project. In 2001, a live-action iteration of Batman Beyond was canceled. It would have evoked the same level of grit that Nolan's Batman Begins ended up providing four years later, but its dark, violent, and profanity-laden concept pushed beyond a PG-13 rating.
