The creative director behind Watch Dogs 2 and Far Cry 3, Patrick Plourde, recently announced their departure from Ubisoft after nearly 20 years at the company. Plourde also worked on the highly acclaimed games Child of Light and Rainbow Six Vegas. When it comes to their next steps, Plourde said they would be starting an "independent creative consultancy.”
"Rainbow Six Vegas, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry 3, Child of Light, Watch Dogs 2… it’s been a privilege to collaborate with everyone at Ubisoft on these great games," Plourde remarked on Twitter. "Now, I’m happy to share that I’m starting my own independent creative consultancy where I will keep working with Ubisoft and also spend time on some personal projects."

Plourde pointed out during an interview with Axios that “most of my time will be working with Ubisoft, but now I’ll have a position outside a traditional structure.” They went on to say that “I will be able to dabble with other fields outside gaming that I had eyes on for a while without having to ask my employer’s permission.”
Ubisoft recognized that Plourde will be leaving the company. "We can confirm that Patrick is leaving Ubisoft, but will provide consulting to some of our creative directors at their request and to the editorial team on certain projects."
Plourde is only the latest big name to leave Ubisoft in the last couple of years. The game director David Polfeldt for example recently announced their departure from the company, saying they would be going “wherever the wind takes me.” Polfeldt is mostly known for their work on The Division and The Division 2.
