Apple's new instant mobile payment system using just an iPhone is already being used at the Apple Park Visitor Center in Cupertino.
Back in February, Apple announced that a new iOS feature called Tap to Pay was being developed. It requires no new hardware, and allows contactless credit and debit card payments to occur between two iPhones (from the iPhone XS onwards) using Apple Pay.
We don't know when Apple intends to launch this new payment feature, but it turns out Tap to Pay is already being used at Apple Park. As MacRumors reports(Opens in a new window), Twitter user Michael (@NTFTWT(Opens in a new window)) recorded a video of the feature being used to transfer money between to iPhones. You can view it in the tweet above.
Based on the footage, the process is extremely quick, taking only a few seconds for a money transfer to be completed once the two iPhones are placed within close range of each other. A loud pinging sound and a blue tick on the screen confirms the transaction was successful.
We still don't know when Tap to Pay is set to launch, but this video confirms Apple already has the system working well so it would be surprising not to see it rolled out before the end of 2022. We may even see it launched at WWDC 2022 next month.
