Activision Blizzard is working on a brand new Warcraft project for mobile platforms. It's a move that would mark the series' first appearance on mobile.
Although the company's mobile card-battler Hearthstone technically takes place in the Warcraft universe and builds on the series' lore, it's an entirely different beast to the core franchise.
In a short statement nestled in its latest fiscal report, Activision Blizzard said it's working on "substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022," and hopes to get "all-new mobile Warcraft content into players' hands for the first time."
That a notable if nebulous pitch, and it'll be fascinating to see how the publisher intends to bring the popular series to smartphones.
Activision Blizzard is currently in the process of being acquired by Microsoft in a whopping $68.7 billion deal, and has also continued to make headlines due to an ongoing culture crisis that has surfaced misconduct allegations against numerous high-profile employees, including CEO Bobby Kotick.
