Vikings: Valhalla follows a new generation of warriors and enemies, so none of the characters from Vikings (except for The Seer) appear in this new series. However, there’s a lot of confusion over Erik the Red, but Valhalla confirmed a major difference between Leif and Freydís’ father and the Erik introduced in Vikings. Created by Michael Hirst, Vikings premiered on the History Channel in 2013 and came to an end in 2020 after six seasons, though that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the stories from the Viking Age, as a sequel series was announced in 2019.
Titled Vikings: Valhalla, the series is set over a century after the events of Vikings, and as such it follows new characters whose stories are separate from those of Ragnar Lothbrok and his sons. Valhalla follows Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett), Freydís Eiríksdóttir (Frida Gustavsson), and Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter) as they embark on a journey that takes them across oceans and battlefields – from Kattegat to England, to Uppsala and beyond – with the conflict between pagans and Christians as the backdrop. Although characters from Vikings don’t appear in Valhalla, some of them are connected, such as Emma of Normandy (Laura Berlin), who is a descendant of Rollo, but contrary to what many believe, Leif and Freydís’ father wasn’t introduced in Vikings.
