Vikings:Valhalla actor Frida Gustavsson talks about her character Freydis has been nicknamed «Man-Slayer» by the cast and crew of the series due to the character's predisposition to violent solutions. Vikings: Valhalla premiered on February 25 with eight episodes on Netflix, with the streamer already renewing the series for two more seasons of eight episodes apiece. The series is a spinoff of Vikings that ran on the History Channel and Amazon Prime for a total of six seasons and 89 episodes.
Set one hundred years after the events of Vikings, Vikings: Valhalla covers the end of the Viking Age and the conflict between the Vikings and England. Gustavsson's character Freydis Eiriksdottir is the sister of Lief Ericksson (Sam Corlett) who in real history is credited for making the first European contact with North America. However, Vikings: Valhallatakes creative liberties with its story and characters, compressing the timeline and giving its characters more coherent arcs.

In an interview with Decider, Gustavsson talks about how her character was called «Man-Slayer» by the cast and crew during filming. The nickname arose around the high frequency with which Freydis would kill whoever she was in a scene with, including the main antagonist of the season Jarl Kare.
