Vikings: Valhalla is a continuation of Vikings but without the characters from the main series, though the three lead characters of Valhalla are similar to Ragnar Lothbrok. A genre that has gained force in television is historical drama, and one of the most popular shows from that genre in recent years is Vikings. Created by Michael Hirst (The Tudors), Vikings premiered on History Channel in 2013, and even though it was originally intended to be a miniseries, it was renewed for a second season and lived on for a total of six seasons, coming to an end in December 2020.
Vikings explored the early years of the Viking Age, beginning with the Lindisfarne raid, which was included in season 1. Vikings initially followed Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel), the legendary Norse warrior, and his travels and raids alongside his Viking brothers, among those his real brother, Rollo (Clive Standen), and his best friend and Kattegat’s best boat builder, Floki (Gustaf Skarsgård), but as the series progressed, it shifted its focus to Ragnar’s sons. Björn, Ubbe, Hvitserk, Sigurd, and Ivar took the lead after Ragnar’s death in season 4 and until the series’ end, and their actions, as well as those of Ragnar, Rollo, and more, will be key to the events in Vikings: Valhalla, even if there’s a big time gap between them.
