It’s been more than a year since the classic vampire RPG’s sequel saw an indefinite delay. The delay didn’t spark much hope in a title that’s seen its fair share of troubles in development. However, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is still in development. There’s still plenty going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about, though.
Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester assures that development of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is still ongoing. After a series of tweets from Wester that shed light on the current state of the game, the picture is a bit clearer now. He firstly confirms that the game is still in development and that the team will tell us more when they “are ready.” To further lay concerns to rest, another tweet reads, “The game is in good hands and we look forward to showing you more when the team and the game is ready.”
While the information Wesker shared isn’t brimming with details, it’s nice to see some kind of update. It doesn’t quite remove the sting that fans have felt along the journey of the game’s development, though. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2‘s announcement in 2019 was exciting for fans of the 2004 original. But no one expected the following years to result in delays and staff departures.
In August 2020, lead writer Brian Mitsoda and creative director Ka’ai Cluney were removed from the project. Mitsoda’s sudden departure was especially shocking, given his central role in the original game’s development. Then, in February 2021, things only got worse for the game, as developer Hardsuit Labs was removed from its production. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2‘s current developer is still unknown.
