Valve recently announced a program of increased production for the Steam Deck in order to prevent the current backlog of orders from growing beyond the bounds of manageability. The company will apparently be filling twice as many orders going forward than previously expected.
“Some great news on the production front. We just sent the last batch of second quarter emails and we’ll start sending third quarter reservation emails on June 30,” Valve remarked on Twitter. “Production has picked up and after today, we'll be shipping more than double the number of Steam Decks every week!”

When the Steam Deck was revealed last year, Valve predicted that demand for the console would soon outstrip its production capacity, so the company created a reservation system in which potential purchasers could sign up to join a waiting list. When contacted by the company, these potential purchasers would be able to claim their Steam Deck by responding within three days. Valve is now offering a short extension for those who miss the notification or for some reason are unable to respond in time.
The precise length of the extension has not been made clear. “Just a quick heads up. If you happen to miss your order window for Steam Deck and would still like to purchase,” the company announced, “there is a grace period of a few days.” Potential purchasers can apply for the grace period by contacting customer support.
Valve has been facing production problems across the board, indefinitely delaying peripherals like the Steam Deck Docking Station. "Due to parts shortages and COVID-19 closures at our manufacturing facilities, the official Steam Deck Docking Station is delayed," Valve said in a statement.
