Warning: contains spoilers for Armorclads #1!
Armorclads opens up a new and exciting corner of the Valiant Universe, mixing mech action with social commentary. 2022 is the “Year of Valiant,” which has seen the publisher revitalize a number of their iconic characters, including Shadowman and Archer and Armstrong. Now, Valiant has introduced Armorclads, its first all-new series in many years, giving fans a glimpse at a new part of the Valiant Universe. The issue is on sale March 23 in print and digital.
Valiant was one of the 1990’s premiere comic book publishers, who along with Image Comics, helped challenge Marvel and DC’s monopoly on the industry early in that decade, thanks to compelling characters such as the Eternal Warrior and Harbinger. Valiant would cease publication in 1999, but returned in a new incarnation in 2012, bringing their characters to a new generation. Since then, Valiant has reintroduced their flagship characters, putting new and exciting spins on them. The publisher has also created new characters, such as Divinity and Punk Mambo, and they have taken their place next to the likes of X-O Manowar and Ninjak. Valiant has recommitted themselves to the comic game in 2022, launching to critical acclaim with new series for Shadowman and Harbinger. Now, Valiant has launched Armorclads, a new series set in a distant corner of their universe, and it has launched in a grand fashion. The first issue is written by JJ O’Connor (who created the series) and Brian Buccellato, illustrated by Manuel Garcia, inked by Raul Fernandez, colored by Rex Lokus, and lettered by Dave Sharpe.
