Whetstones are required for certain gear upgrades in V Rising - mostly to improve the gear score of your gear and improve your weapons to their higher-tier versions. Gear score is what makes the world go round in this survival ARPG, so you are going to need Whetstones at some point to keep progressing in the game.

There are two main ways to get Whetstones in V Rising: via random loot drops or to craft them yourself. We will cover both of those methods here.
Whetstones are a random loot drop from 20+ level enemies in the game. If you want to find a spot that has a lot of spawns with chests that also drop Whetstones, head to the Bandit Armory. Here's where it is on the map. We recommend an item level of 25-30 for this area.
Whetstones are fairly rare right at the start of the game, but once you head into higher-level areas to clear bosses and elites, you should be finding them lying around a lot more often.
Whetstones are crafted at the Furnace with Copper Ingot and Stone Dust. You can find our guides for Copper and Stone Dust here. You need one Copper Ingot and 12 Stone Dust to craft a Whetstone.
This is a very reliable way to craft lots of Whetstones.
Whetstones are used to upgrade your gear. Take this Merciless Copper Mace as an example. It requires 8 Whetstones in total, as well as Crude Topaz and Leather. This gives you a gear score jump of +3 over a regular Copper Mace. These blueprints are found by exploring the world or by conducting research at the table.
