The just released Chip 'n Dale reboot has a surprise and show-stealing cameo in Ugly Sonic, played perfectly by Tim Robinson. The hybrid live-action/CGI film based on the enduring animated characters just hit Disney+ on Friday.
Ugly Sonic, of course, was the original cursed design of the blue hedgehog that Paramount Pictures released in advance of 2020's Sonic the Hedgehog. But as the internet quickly decided, nobody wants to see Sonic's teeth, and so the film was literally delayed so Paramount Pictures could do some retooling. But, Ugly Sonic is back in his original glory in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers.
Early in the movie, while Chip is tabling at a convention, Ugly Sonic has his own booth, alongside Lumière from Beauty and the Beast and Tigra from the '90s Avengers cartoon. Ugly Sonic proceeds to tell Dale, «They'll like me for who I am, not like last time when the internet got one look at my human teeth and burned the place down… Oh, they're laughing at me. I know that. You can't hurt my feelings if I'm in on the joke.»
Later, the movie reveals that things turn out just fine for Ugly Sonic this time.
In GameSpot's review of Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers, Mat Elfring called it «one of the funniest films of the year, and it's something that will bring you a lot of joy, regardless if you loved the original series or not.»
We are of course duty bound to remind you that earlier this month, it was announced that Robinson's singular sketch show I Think You Should Leave was picked up by Netflix for Season 3.
