Ubisoft has said that it’s exploring bringing back the Rayman series.
The company told Kotaku that a Rayman project is in its “early stages” at its Montpellier and Milan studios.
It also confirmed that Rayman and Beyond Good and Evil creator Michel Ancel, who left the company in 2020, is consulting on it.
“We are pleased to confirm Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have recently started an exploration phase on the Rayman brand,” said a spokesperson for Ubisoft. “The project is still in its early stages, and we will share more details later.”
“As creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe,” they added.
Ubisoft commented on the project after Insider Gaming reported that a Rayman remake is in development at Mario + Rabbids studio Ubisoft Milan, with assistance from Montpellier developers.
It claimed that the Montpellier team which developed Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown had been broken up after Ubisoft decided not to make a sequel.
The majority of those developers are said to have joined Montpellier’s Beyond Good and Evil 2 team, with about a dozen moving to ‘Project Ovr’, the next mainline Ghost Recon game, and a similar number joining ‘Project Steambot’, the Rayman title.
The fifth and most recent entry in Ubisoft’s platforming series was 2013’s Rayman Legends, which was developed by its Montpellier studio.
