I think it's safe to say that Ubisoft has got the message that NFT announcements rarely end well, at least in terms of optics. When it unveiled Ubisoft Quartz last year, the trailer was thoroughly ratio'd, currently sitting at 45k dislikes. To add insult to injury, it appears that they weren't even financially successful, with very few sales taking place. And now, not having NFTs in its latest project is actually a selling point.
In a tweet thread officially revealing the leaked Project Q, Ubisoft has stated that it doesn't currently have any plans to incorporate NFTs into the game. This has been met with praise from fans, although some worry that the wording of the statement still leaves the door open for them to be included later.

As explained in the thread, Project Q will be a team-based multiplayer game with a variety of PvP modes. Anyone who's interested can sign on to participate in upcoming tests, although that's really all we know about it right now.
The follow up announcement that there is currently no plan to implement NFTs has got a lot of likes - over 1,000 at the time of writing - but the comments express doubt in Ubisoft's sincerity.
"When you have to follow up your announcement with TWO disclaimers, saying that terrible ideas aren't part of that game, you know you screwed up as a company", reads one reply, also referring to the similar follow up stating that Project Q will not be a battle royale game.
